Assessment
Assessments at HACH
The purpose of assessment here at HACH is to guide teachers in their planning and teaching of your child. Great teaching is informed by regular low stakes quizzing which informs teaching so we can ensure your child is learning the curriculum and remembering it. In lessons student shave regular Do Now Quizzes which are low stakes quizzes on the powerful knowledge of the curriculum. This is a research-driven way to ensure your child learns more knowledge over time and we have seen huge success with this.
Every child in the school has two summative assessments across ana academic year. These assessments are more formal than a Do Now Quiz and are in timed conditions with no teacher guidance. The aim of these assessments is to test if your child is remembering the curriculum as intended. The purpose is for teachers to understand what your child knows and use this information to inform their teaching.
We will report home to you on these assessments after teachers have reviewed your child's progress. Although reports home help you understand your child’s progress, we want to emphasise that we will not be using high stakes language with students about them. They are a useful tool to ensure we can support them to learn the curriculum and therefore we will not be using pressurising language with them, especially in non-exam year groups.
KS3 Assessments
At KS3, assessments are designed to be age appropriate for your child and test on the curriculum since they joined us in Year 7. Assessments will be sat in class and review a cumulation of their knowledge. Knowledge Organiser will be the main tool encouraged for revision should your child want to prepare for these assessments.
KS3 Communication after the assessments:
After an assessment window you will receive a report containing the results from recent assessments. This report will contain:
-
Forecast Grade
An aspirational target grade predicted for the end of GCSE -
Attitude to Learning grade for each subject
This will help you understand your child’s effort and behaviour
-
A percentage score from their assessment
This will highlight how much knowledge has been learned from the curriculum
-
A forecast quartile which indicates the performance grouping that your child sits in within in their year group.
This will help you understand how well they did in relation to their peers
