Izzy Gets the GOLD

IzzyYear 10 student at Harris Academy Chafford Hundred Izzy is a British Jiu-Jitsu champion after winning silver and gold medals in the national competition which took place in Walsall, Birmingham, on 1st September.

Izzy has been mad about Jiu-Jitsu since primary school and has been training since she was sevem years old. She is part of “Stanford Warriors” and trains three days a week. However, in the run up to the competition she gave up her summer holiday to train five days, showing real determination and dedication.

31 young people from Izzy’s club competed and 37 medals were one after a series of activities. These included a warm up, a bow to the judges, katas (in which Izzy won a silver medal in the open hand kata), pairs demos, random attacks (in which Izzy won a gold medal) and continuous fighting. As a result of all this hard work she is proud to own the title of British Jiu-Jitsu champion for 13-15 year olds, a tremendous achievement.

Izzy is looking forward to her grading in November in which she is working towards a purple and a brown belt. Competitions will follow in February and then August when the nationals will take place again.

We wish Izzy every success and lots more medals!

Congratulations also go to Joseph and Adam Herbert as both won bronze medals in their respective weight categories for Ground fighting. Harry Wardell also took part but narrowly missed a medal. All of the students who took part worked so hard, devoting their entire summer holiday to training and were a credit to their club on the day.
